Shout-out!

I have 82 pages!

Wheeeeeeee! Only 18 to go, and I need those written by Friday. But I actually think that'll be no problem!

In the parallell universe where my script would actually become a movie -

- Jeremy Sisto would play the role of Kasper's mentally disturbed creative writing teacher, who gives his class the assignment of writing a whole novel from the point of view of the hidden monster we all have inside ourselves, without the censorship forced upon us by society.

Which of course has nothing to do with him playing a mentally disturbed art teacher in Six Feet Under. Of course not. Obviously!

You know, just a little bit. Maybe.

Also, it's because I find him a little bit hot.

As you might understand, this script is a little bit all over the place at the moment...

Today's pages: 69
Today's goal according to website: 80
My status: Basically fucked
Desire to stop writing and rather watch Six Feet Under: All-consuming!

Oh, and by the way:

Page count at the moment: 64
Daily goal (according to web site): 73

Oooops...!

Surpriiiiiise!

Okay, I've now been typing frantically since April 1st, and have written 64 pages. 64! Count them (I know you won't)! And for most parts when I stop and read back a bit, it blows my mind. Not the page count, but what's actually written on the pages. When I started out I had a general idea of what to write, which is now nowhere to be seen!

- I had a theme, which is gone and has been replaced with something else.
- I had two very vivid characters - and very thoughtfully deliberated names for them - who are gone and have been replaced by two other characters (even though in the first part of the script, the original characters are still there. I'll have to replace them later with the new ones, but I'm actually allowed to wait until after Script Frenzy)
- I had a setting which was supposed to be a place where my MC (main character) wanted to get away from, but now she's doing her best to be able to stay!
- My MC was supposed to have a certain personality, but as her name, her looks and her apartment changed, so did she.
- Her family changed too!

Basically what happened is this:

1. The main story was supposed to be based around this imaginary friend who turn up, and encourages the MC to start taking different risks. This imaginary friend was supposed to be a middle-aged, fat man. In other words a complete disappointment as imaginary friends go. But at some point, the character now having taken his place in the script sort of knocked on the screen from the inside, going: "Uh, excuse me, writer. It's just that, uhm, first of all I'm a looot younger than that, much cuter, and soooo not fat. Also, I'm not so sure I'm actually imaginary. Oh, and I do have a name - it's Kasper, and I'd appreciate it if you used it. That's all. Eh, thanks for listening."

2. The MC - Amelia Cecila Johnston - did the same knocking, and our conversation went something like this:
MC: My name's Lyla Amelia.
Me: Uh, no, it's not.
MC: Uh, yes, it is. And my brother used to call me Lah-Lah Meelah when he was little.
Me: Wait, you have a brother?
MC: Yeah, keep up, will you? He lives in Chicago with my parents.
Me (making notes): Chicago. Right...
MC: And I do have a friend, you know. Cecilia, at the cafe.
Me: There is no Cecilia at the cafe...
MC: Oh, but there is. You just decided to give her my name.
Me: Oh, Lyla is Cecilia?
MC: There you go.
Me: This is too complicated for me.
MC: No, it isn't. This is you talking, not me.
Me: O-kaaaay...?
MC: Oh, and Kasper wanted me to remind you that he's a real person.

It's interesting when you've written nonstop for a few hours, then read back, and go "Whoa, I didn't see that coming!"

Maybe I'm finally going insane!?

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

No, no, no! I've watched too much CSI NY lately! I mean, it's okay that I imagine A.J. Buckley (Adam) as Kasper, but now I see Anna Belknap (Lindsay) as Amelia?? It's too much! But it's so perfect! I don't know why I haven't seen it before! She's got that sweet, innocent, yet strong and independant thing going on.

And that's my character in a nut shell!

And it's so stupid!

But who cares! It's my script!

And no one will ever know!

Yay!

~

Today's goal: 43
Number of pages: 45!!! I'm ahead for the first time! Yay times three!

Epiphany!

The imaginary friend's name shall be Kasper! Oh yeah!

Or...

- I can have my character lose her job, and she has a lot of lengthy soul searching to do in order to decide on moving to... Chicago, where the rest of her family lives. Like they've asked her to. Again and again. And which she has refused. Again and again.

- She can sing a really long song, just for the hell of it (and for the page count - I mean, I'd obviously have to copy and paste the lyrics).

- Or - and this one is brilliant - Amelia and her imaginary friend can have a long conversation on the plot in Home & Away, like Thess and I have all the time! That'll take at least three pages, AND be ridiculous! And of course the imaginary friend (God, I have to find a name for him soon!) watched Home & Away, because Amelia does. Once she has explained what's going on, he'll be too curious to stay away, and after two episodes he'll be just as hooked as her! Home & Away can be the running gag I've been looking for (that, and how the imaginary friend keeps changing Amelia's ring tones, so that every time her phone rings, she gets totally embarrassed by a new song). Home & Away will be what Passions was for Spike in Buffy!

Yaaaay, I'm happy again!

"Calling all the stars to fall"

I'm 8 pages behind, and bored with my script, so I need a new angle. Therefore I just read some inspiring thoughts on the Script Frenzy site... The basic idea was that if you run out of ideas, throw in a love story and experiment with it. So now I'm trying to figure out a way to do that.

- Should Amelia fall in love with her imaginary friend after all? (I'm in love with him, so it's totally believable *coughcough*). Too unfair!

- Should Amelia fall in love with the stupid cafe owner, Mr. Baty, who wants to sell the cafe now that his father has died and won't care anymore whether it stays in the family? Uh, no, scrap that. I hate Mr. Baty.

- Should Amelia fall in love with her fellow waitress, Lyla, who is looking to buy the cafe? They're already talking about buying it together, so maaaaaybe there could be something there? Lyla's completely different from her, though.

- Should Amelia's invisible friend fall in love with Lyla? (He's already singing Oasis' Hey Lyla everytime someone mentions her name). Nah, poor guy!

- Should I introduce another character? Maybe a regular at the cafe? Or maybe a handyman who helps fixing the cafe up when (or if) Lyla and/ or Amelia buy(s) it? Too cliche.

Gaaaaah, I haaaaate my script!!!

On the plus side: I've discovered the wonderful world of caramel lattes!

Soundtrack!

The most important part of a movie! Apart from, you know, the rest of it...

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

Progress! Yay!

Yay, I finally (after one pizza, one SoBe, two helpings of chocolate pudding, and half a cup of caramel latte) came up with the twist in the plot I was desperately searching for! For one, this will be just a comedy, NOT a romantic comedy. Puh, I'm so glad I got that out of the way! Amelia will NOT fall in love with - uh... God, I need to find a name for him soon. Also, I've found something she can want, which is kind of important. And also - and this is the most important part - found out how it will end! Yay!

Go me! :)

Page count: 17
Today's goal: 20 (at least, which will be a piece of cake now that I've got some caffein in my system).

15 pages reached!

And my script is reaching new levels of "what-the-fuck"-ness and "when-the-hell-will-something-interesting-happen"-ness... And I hope at some point I'll stop caring about that, and remember that the whole point is to write 100 connected pages, not what's on them.

Opening credits (you know, where they'd show my name and stuff, if this was actually real)

Yay, I just found the perfect song for my opening credits! Regina Spektor's Just Like The Movies! It's kinda ironic, and a whole lotta perfect. I'm also using her song Lady on the mixed CD Amelia (my MC) has made for the cafe where she works, as well. After a few more hours of desperate procrastination I'll have more of the soundtrack ready.

The devil's in the details, as the CSIs would say.

I have two more pages to write by bedtime in order to reach my goal for the weekend.

Things I've realised about myself during Screnzy, Pt.1:

I'm pretty restless for a lazy person...

Casting!

So, obviously when you write a script it's very important to know who's going to play your main characters. Therefore, allow me to present

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Amelia Cecilia Johnston:

aaaaaaaaand

*cough cough*

A.J. Buckley as the imaginary friend/ love interest (no name for him yet):

There! Two very important pieces of the puzzle, these! :)

Page count: 10!
Goal: 15 pages by bedtime on Sunday.

Screnzying

So, I'm doing Script Frenzy this April! And since I hate writing long introductions to my blogs (of which I have plenty), I'll just unceremoniously get straight to the point:

I'm writing a romantic comedy about a girl who falls in love with her imaginary friend. Today I've written three pages, which I guess is a good start!
